
Employee Profile Redesign
SkyHive helps companies, governments, and workers navigate the changing world of work by mapping skills rather than job titles — turning workforce data into actionable insights. One of the Key Features is Skills Mapping that uses AI to analyze job descriptions, résumés, and learning data to identify what skills people and organizations have — and what they’re missing. Each employee has “skills profile” that generated buy AI and can be updated by employee.
Up-to-date skill profiles empower people to grow and help companies adapt — creating a more agile and future-ready workforce.
Redesigned SkyHive’s AI-driven Employee Profile to improve engagement and clarity in skill visibility. Low employee engagement was caused by unclear skill gaps and confusing terminology.
I led end-to-end UX/UI redesign to address low employee engagement.
Problem
User research revealed that employees struggled to understand how their skills were mapped to roles, growth opportunities, and gaps. The platform’s value wasn’t immediately clear, making it difficult for users to see how it could support their career development. As a result, engagement with the Employee Profile remained low, and employees were less likely to update their skills or explore internal opportunities.
For employers, this led to incomplete workforce data and limited visibility into organizational capabilities — making it harder to identify skill gaps, plan reskilling initiatives, and effectively support internal mobility.
The key challenge was to reimagine the Employee Profile experience in a way that increased transparency and motivation for users, encouraged active engagement, and seamlessly aligned with SkyHive’s evolving design system.
My Role
As a Senior Product Designer, I led the end-to-end UX/UI redesign of the Employee Profile, collaborating closely with PMs, engineers, and fellow designers. My goal was to create a more intuitive and valuable experience that increased user engagement and aligned with SkyHive’s broader product vision.
Key Contributions:
- Conducted UX research and audits to uncover pain points and opportunities.
- Facilitated Value Proposition Canvas and Customer Journey Mapping workshops.
- Designed and iterated on low- and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma.
- Led two rounds of usability testing (10 users each) and refined the experience based on insights.
- Unified typography, color, and components within the new SkyHive Design System for scalability.
Customer Journey Map
To build a shared vision and align the team on employee workflows, I led the creation of a Customer Journey Map (CJM). This map detailed the employee’s experience with the platform, from onboarding to interacting with their profile and taking action on skill gap insights.
Skill & Gaps Visualization
I explored different visualization approaches—such as radial charts, progress rings, skill trees, bar graphs, and spider charts—to determine the most effective way to communicate complex skill data.

Skills Display, Proficiency, Search & Filtering
Following the visualization direction, I focused on designing a dynamic and intuitive skill management system for both employees and managers (enterprise users).

Skills Visualization
- Helps user see how skills align with position, including matches and gaps.

- Actionable prompts guide users on how to improve skill matches, making the interface more motivating and rewarding.
- User testing helped improve naming and clarity, enhancing comprehension.

New Skill Management
- Skills and gaps are displayed in separate, filterable tables, allowing employees and managers to easily search, filter, and manage skill data.
- Both employees and managers can quickly find specific skills. A tabular layout makes it easy to review, compare, and manage skills.

Personal Information Organization
Personal information was moved to a dedicated “Personal Info” tab, reducing clutter and focusing the profile on skills and career growth.

Detailed Skill Insights
Clicking on a skill opens a skill detail page, showing history and proficiency ratings from previous assessments, helping users track progress over time.

Improved Add/Edit Skill Flow
Both employees and managers can now easily select multiple skills and set proficiency levels in a streamlined workflow, reducing friction and improving efficiency.

Outcome & Impact:
Increased Engagement: Redesigned Employee Profile led to higher interaction and more frequent skill updates from employees.
Improved Clarity: Users reported better understanding of how their skills aligned with roles and career growth opportunities.
Data-Driven Decisions: Employers gained more accurate workforce skill data, enabling smarter planning, internal mobility, and targeted reskilling.
Design System Adoption: New unified components ensured scalability and consistency across SkyHive’s products, reducing design and development effort.
